January 1, 2012
Donald Colarusso was sworn-in as Chief of the Neptune Fire Department. Also sworn-in was Unexcelled Fire Company Captain Joseph L. Mauro IV and Lieutenant Danial J. Harker.
Three hours after the swearing-in ceremony, Neptune Firefighters battled a 2-alarm fire on Sayre Street. Click here to watch.

UNEXCELLED FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDS TO BASEMENT FIRE

The Unexcelled Fire Company responded to 115 Anelve Avenue for a reported structure fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a fire in the basement. The fire was quickly contained and suppressed. There were no injuries on scene.

UNEXCELLED FIREFIGHTER PARTICIPATE IN HOAGIE BUILDING FOR CHARITY

The Unexcelled Fire Company joined members of the Shark River Hills Fire Company and Hamilton Fire Company as Team Neptune Fire Department, going against Team Neptune Police Department.
The event, which involved building as many hoagies as possible in 3 minutes, yielded a $2,000.00 donation from WaWa for charity.
The competition ended in a tie.
The event was held by the new WaWa Store, located on Highway 33 in Neptune and was their Grand Opening.
Members of the Unexcelled Fire Company regularly participate in community functions.
ROPE RESCUE TRAINING FOR NEPTUNE FIREFIGHTERS

The Unexcelled Fire Company received rope rescue training including techniques for rescues with stokes basket via rope lowers and rescues via tower ladder operations.
The drill was conducted at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, utilizing the 5-story Parking Garage.
Instructors were from First Due Training - members of FDNY SOC and NJTF-1.

The Unexcelled Fire Company supports Neptune High School and the Neptune Schools.
Unexcelled Ladder 34-4-90 attended and participated in the annual Homecoming Parade, which starts at Neptune High School, proceeds up State Highway 33 to Green Grove Road, to the athletic fields behind the Summerfield School.
Neptune Football beat Ocean 19-0.
UNEXCELLED FIREFIGHTERS RESCUE CAR ACCIDENT VICTIM
October 19, 2011
Shortly after 9pm, the Unexcelled Fire Company responded to an reported auto accident with a patient trapped. Upon arrival, Firefighters found a two vehicle accident with a female pinned.
Utilizing Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75's hydraulic extrication tools, firefighters were able to access the patient and remove her.
Unexcelled Firefighters were assisted by Liberty Fire Company, Neptune OEM, Hamilton First Aid and Ocean Grove First Aid.
Unexcelled Fire Company responded to a reported car fire at 30 Ridge Avenue shortly before midnight. Upon arrival, firefighter found a pick-up truck that was on fire, with a vehicle parked directly next to it. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished by Engine 34-4-75.
UNEXCELLED FIREFIGHTERS OPERATING AT A MASS CASSUALTY INCIDENT

Unexcelled Firefighters operated at the scene of an MVA with 12 injuries onboard a bus. The incident occured at West Lake Avenue and Myrtle Avenue. Firefighters assisted EMS in removing victims, treating and transporting.
UNEXCELLED EX-FIRE CHIEF RECEIVES MEDAL OF VALOR AWARD

Unexcelled President Robert McDonald, who was the Neptune Fire Department Chief in 2009, was awarded a Medal of Valor Award by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office at their annual Medal Day Ceremony. The event was held at the Monmouth County Fire Academy in Freehold. Ex-Chief McDonald, at great personal risk to himself, came to the aid of three people who were in an overturned vehicle that was on fire.

FIREFIGHTERS GET FIRST LOOK AT LATEST TECHNOLOGY FOR THE FIRE SERVICE

Several members of the Unexcelled Fire Company got an early glimpse of the latest Thermal Imaging technology for firefighters. The new Draeger UCF 7000 Thermal Imager. This state-of-the-art camera was recently released by Draeger and has several very unique features, such as being Intrinsically Safe. It also has a "freeze frame display" feature that allows firefighters to see around corners, or show fellow firefighters images by capturing a snap shot. This thermal imaging camera automatically records video and sound, weighs three pounds and has a lithium-oin battery capable of as much as a four hour run time. September 18, 2011 Neptune Fire Department's Unexcelled Fire Company participated in Jersey Shore University Medical Center's annual Community Day. Neptune Firefighters were on-hand displaying Fire Engine 34-4-75, as well as handing out fire prevention literature.
FIRE IN BRADLEY BEACH EXTINGUISHED
September 16, 2011 Unexcelled Fire Company responded mutual aid to 423 Everygreen Avenue in Bradley Beach to assist at a structure fire.
Members of Unexcelled worked with Bradley Beach, Avon and Asbury Park firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

Neptune Fire Department's Unexcelled Fire Company was honored to help in hosting the Annual Robert J. Foti Memorial Mini Golf Tourament, which was held in Bradley Beach.
FF Foti was killed on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center. He was a member of Manhattan's Ladder Company 7.
UNEXCELLED FIRE COMPANY PARTICIPATES IN NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

Neptune Fire Department's Unexcelled Fire Company participated in the Annual 'National Night Out". Like in previous years, the Community Event was held at the Midtown School on Atkins Avenue and Embury Avenue in downtown Neptune. Unexcelled Fire Company set up Tower Ladder 34-4-90 and flowed water for the local children.
NEPTUNE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDS TO ELEVATOR RESCUE

Unexcelled Fire Company responded for a report of a person trapped in an elevator at 1609 West Lake Avenue - West Lake Senior Apartments. Firefighters investigated and found that the victim had already exited prior to their arrival. The elevators were shut down until they could be inspected.

Shortly after 2am, the Unexcelled Fire Company was requested mutual aid to Ocean Township to assist Oakhurst Fire Department battle a structure fire.
Ladder 34-4-90 was requested and responded. Unexcelled Firefighters were assigned as the Rapid Intervention team.
During the incident, a heavy rain and thunderstorm moved through the area, but there were no injuries as a result.
CAR CRASHES INTO A NEPTUNE HOME

The Neptune Fire Department was dispatched to a reported car into a home on Monmouth Avenue and Central Avenue. The Career Division, Station 1 and 3 were assigned, with a special call for Station 4 - Unexcelled Fire Company.
Upon arrival a passenger car had crashed into a one story private dwelling, then backed up and parked the car in the street. there were no injuries.
Neptune EMS, OEM, Police and the Construction Department also responded.

Unexcelled Firefighters responded to Highway 35 and Heck Avenue for an MVA involving a taxi cab. Firefighters treated two patients until the arrival of EMS.
BASEMENT FIRE QUICKLY SUPPRESSED BY UNEXCELLED FIREFIGHTERS
April 1, 2011
Shortly after 3am, a General Alarm was transmitted for a possible structural fire at 445 State Highway 35. Upon arrival of the NFD Assistant Chief, a working fire was confirmed in a 2 1/2 story private dwelling. Unexcelled Engine 34-4-75 arrived and located the fire in the basement and extending to the first floor. A line was stretched and crews suppressed the fire, as Ladder 34-4-90 arrived. The Ladder Crew ventilated the heavy black smoke and performed primary and secondary searches. The resident escaped without injury. Engine 34-3-76, Ladder 34-1-90 and Air unit 34-2-86 were also on scene. Wayside Fire Company responded as the RIT team, and an extra engine was special called from Neptune City. Neptune Police, EMS and OEM were also on scene. The fire is under investigation by the Neptune Fire Bureau.
UNEXCELLED RESPONDS TO THE CITY OF LONG BRANCH
March 15, 2011
Shortly before midnight, the Unexcelled Fire Company was requested mutual aid to Long Branch on Riviera Drive. The large home, whose backyard was the Long Branch beach, was destroyed by a raging fire.
No injuries were reported on scene.
Engine 34-4-75 remained on scene for nearly two hours.
UNEXCELLED RESPONDS TO OCEAN GROVE FOR MULTIPLE HOUSES ON FIRE
March 11, 2011
Shortly after 5am, firefighters were called to Surf Avenue in Ocean Grove for a reported structure fire. Ocean Grove and Neptune firefighters were among the first to arrive. Heavy fire conditions and the close proximity of the homes in the historic section of the community aided if the quick spread of fire to the surrounding homes.
According to www.app.com, 8 homes were destroyed and 5 others damaged on Surf and Atlantic Avenues.

A QUICK RESPONSE SPARES BUILDING FROM WIND-DRIVEN FIRE
February 15, 2011
Firefighters were quick to respond to an outside rubbish fire that was fanned by high winds and up against a 3-story occupied multiple dwelling. Unexcelled Fire Company and the Neptune Career Division arrived at the same time, and quickly knocked down the blaze before it could extend into the building. No injuries were reported on scene. Residents of the building were welcomed into the Unexcelled Firehouse (next door), out of the cold, until they were permitted back to their homes.

Asbury Park Fire Department Acting Truck Captain Jason Fazio was injured during this blaze and according to www.app.com, he is in critical condition at St. Barnabus Burn Center in Livingston, NJ.
The Unexcelled Fire Company responded to 420 Main Street in Asbury Park shortly after 10am to assist APFD.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jason, his family and the Asbury Park Fire Department.

CONFINED SPACE DRILL

Members of the Unexcelled Fire Company trained in Confined Space Rescue. As a part of the Neptune Township Special Operations Team, Unexcelled Fire Company works cooperatively with Neptune Office of Emergency Management, Neptune Fire Department Career Division, Shark River Hills First Aid, Neptune Police Department and members from other township agencies.
ANNUAL "TURKEY BOWL" FLAG FOOTBALL GAME - NEPTUNE vs. WALL - A SUCCESS!

For years, members of the Unexcelled & Hamilton Fire Company's play against the Wall Fire Company in the annual "Turkey Bowl".
"It's a great time and a fun, friendly rivalry", said participant and Wall Fire Commissioner Jeff Kniffen.
The "Turkey Bowl" is held on the Saturday following Thanksgiving at Shark River Park off Gully Road (Wall/Neptune border).

Each year, Neptune High School holds a Candle Light Vigil. The event reflects on the impact of drunk driving in the community with words from guest speakers and students. This year, Neptune Fire District was represented by the Unexcelled Fire Company, who attended along with Neptune OEM and Neptune EMS. The Unexcelled Fire Company supports Neptune High School and their efforts to increase awareness of the dangers of underage drinking.
TOWER LADDER 34-4-90
Unexcelled Fire Company's new Tower Ladder will be displayed in 1st Responder News and on www.FDNYTrucks.com. Photographers Mike Martinelli, Ron Jeffers and John Calderone were in Neptune on November 11 for the photo shoot.
34-4-90 was delivered in March of 2010. It is a Crimson 100-ft Tower Ladder. This unit is equipped with essential Truck Company equipment. It is also equipped for confined space rescue, vehicle extrication, Rapid Intervention (RIT) and Special Operations.

The Unexcelled Fire Company, along with Neptune OEM and Neptune First Aid, participated in the 2010 Neptune High School Homecoming Parade.
Neptune Fire District 1 was there, represented by Station 4, with Ladder 34-4-90 who followed the Class of 2011, 2012 and 2013 as they marched up Highway 33 to the High School Football Fields.

Unexcelled Firefighters operated at the scene of a 3-vehicle MVA on Highway 35 and Heck Ave. Firefighters stabalized the vehicle, which was on its side, and removed the victim. Firefighters then tended to the victim until the arrival of EMS.

UNEXCELLED FIRE COMPANY ATTEND DRILL IN NEIGHBORING BRADLEY BEACH
September 25, 2010 Unexcelled Fire Company members participate in multi-agency drill in Bradley Beach. Unexcelled firefighters were assigned as the RIT team, and during the simulated structure fire were summonsed to rescue a firefighter who fell through the floor into the basement. The member was located and removed in less than 5 minutes. Also participating in the drill was Allenhurst Fire Department, Bradley Beach Police Department and Bradley Beach OEM.

UNEXCELLED FIRE COMPANY WINS THE WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE!
Members of the Unexcelled Fire Company won the event with a record-setting weight lost a total of 243 pounds! As winners of the event, the fire company received a check for $1,000.00. The event also raised $2,215.00 which was donated to the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean County, located in Neptune.

Snow Storm Keeps Firefighters Busy

Unexcelled Firefighters worked around the clock during a snow storm that blanketed the Jersey Shore with 16-18 inches of snow.
Firefighters responded to fire emergencies, assisted stranded motorists and assisted EMS to gain access to people in need of medical care who were snowed into their homes.

The Unexcelled Fire Company was presented with a donation of $1,160.00 during the September 22, 2009 borough council meeting in Bradley Beach. The donation was generated from the 8th Annual Robert J. Foti Gold Tourament, which was held in Bradley Beach on September 8 at the Ocean Front Gold Course. FF Foti was member of FDNY's Ladder Company 7 and was killed on 9/11. He was a summertime resident of Bradley Beach and brother to the members of the Unexcelled Fire Company. June 28, 2008: Training at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Members of Unexcelled Fire Company, Hamilton Fire Company and NFD Career staff received instruction on ropes and rigging. The training prepares firefighters to rescue trapped firefighters and civilians who may be trapped in high rise fires and beyond the reach of ladder trucks.
