Members of the Unexcelled Fire Company attended the annual Fallen Firefighters and Medal Day Ceremony, held on October 5 at the Monmouth County Fire Academy.

All fallen firefighters in the county are remembered in the annual service, including Unexcelled Firefighter Lloyd Layton.

Firefighter Layton was tragically killed while answering a fire alarm call in March of 1927.  The 47 year old apparatus chauffeur was pronounced dead at the Ann May Memorial Hospital in Spring Lake.

“We are very honored to attend and pay our respects each and every year to Lloyd”, said Unexcelled Fire Company President Robert McDonald.  “The county does an outstanding and very honorable job”, he said.

During the ceremony, and as is done annually, an Unexcelled Firefighter places a rose on the county’s fallen firefighter memorial.

The following Unexcelled Firefighters attended the service:  FF Nick Megill, FF Philip Williams, FF Otis Henderson, FF Kahlil Jeter and FF Matthew Coleman.
